The humble but trusty egg beater drill is often eschewed in favour of a power drill, but they are often easier to use on small jobs, so should be an essential piece of kit for a woodworker . They come in many shapes and sizes . These are my most commonly used drills. The top one is a Millers Falls two speed breast drill (no 12a c1910). The middle is a Millers Falls No2 single speed drill (c1899). Finally we have the trusty Stanley hand drill which is still available new.
The hand drills are best used in my view for detailed work such as preparing holes for wood screws and counter sinking. The breast drill is great for heavy work with twist drill bits.
The breast drill comes with a built-in spirit level .
Some come with a handy case for drill bits too.
